To get it started was not too complicated apart from the plan needed to be assigned to the product I received by emailing the registration number on it, which was smooth enough and the speed was good as I was in a big city.
I faced a few issues:
1) Each time the phone went to sleep/closed, the phone would not recognize the hot spot and automatically connect when phone gets on or when I need to use the hot spot again. Each time, I have to do "Forget the network" and input the numeric password which came with the product. I was alone but if the hotspot was used also by co-travelers, this would have been a major pain. It might be just my phone being old (iphone 11 with latest iOS) .
2) The on and off button on the device is not very friendly and it can get switched on by mistake when it is in a bag and squashed around. If it was a slide style and you can see exactly if it is on or off, it would have been better. Once I did not realise the device was on in my bag and my phone kept using the data from the hotspot till next morning even when I had the wifi of the lodging. I used up a significant amount of data that night.
3) It is not clear how much the battery is charged. It says it can last for 6 hours, but as I was doing switch on/off and log in/out all the time to get it working, even though I was careful switching off wifi whenever I was not in using it, after a day out, it seems that the battery was flat even though the total time of usage was a few minutes here and there. This is a serious problem because it might be toward the end of your day when you definitely need wifi to get home or to look for a restaurant for diner, if the hot spot battery is already drained even though you charged it overnight, you would be always afraid. And the normal external battery I carried with me for my phone did NOT work with the device, I don't know why, so no way around this battery issue. I am hoping that there is a way to replace the battery with a more performant model, but I will attempt it only when the battery worn out.
Overall, the concept of lifetime hotspot by keeping it alive for a small fee is good if you travel often and can cancel out the device cost, but the technology and products change and it will never be a life time.
Customer service seems very good via email once you initiate the conversation. Hope it continues.
